Sixth Central Pay Commission Report for Central School Teachers
In order to attract better Teachers and to retain them in the Government,
the Commission is inclined to recommend a higher
start for Primary School Teachers. This, along with the restructuring of
pay scales being recommended by the Commission, will
necessitate restructuring of the existing pay scales of Teachers.
Accordingly, the following pay bands and grade pay are recommended
for the category of Teachers:- (in Rs.)

Residency period for promotion from one grade to another grade ie 12 years shall remain unchanged.
The Commission has, elsewhere in the Report, recommended grant of half pay leave to the Teachers.
A special allowance for Teachers in residential schools in the Ministry of Railways and
Ministry of Defence has also been recommended.
